Crafting For Fun

After my wife started getting really into DIY projects, I realized that I wanted to help too. Instead of letting her do her own thing, I started helping her to build, paint, and decorate different household items. It seemed difficult at first, but after awhile I was able to get into the swing of things and really hone my crafting skills. Now, I actually enjoy crafting, and I frequently recommend it to my family members and other guy friends as a creative outlet. Check out this blog for more ideas about craft projects for men and women alike.

Tips For Choosing Photos For A Collage

by Alejandro Caballero

Photo collages are an excellent way to display several photos at once, and the collage format is a satisfying form of expression. Collages come in many forms, including paper, digital, and even three-dimensional. You can make one yourself or send pictures in to have a professional create it.

The first step, though, is picture selection. Below are some tips for choosing pictures to make an attractive collage.

Focus on an Event

One reason people enjoy the collage art form is that it allows them to display several photos from a special event at the same time. So, you can start with such an event, such as a birthday party or trip. From there, choose photos that seem particularly representative of the event. For instance, a photo of the Eiffel Tower with other shots of you around Paris would make for a good collage.

Try Out a Theme

Similarly, you could focus on a theme instead of a specific event. For example, you don't have to focus on just one trip. Instead, you could choose the overall theme of travel. So, let's say you took pictures of other famous monuments during your trip. Choose a selection in varying sizes.

For a thematic collage, you could also incorporate images you didn't take yourself. For example, maybe you found a cartoon image of an old-fashioned suitcase with travel stickers. That image would be a fun way to promote the theme in your collage.

Make Sure Everyone in a Group Is Represented

Maybe your theme is more general. Perhaps you want a collage of your immediate family or work friends. You can choose a selection of images of the various members of that group. The central photo might be a group shot. As you choose other pictures for the collage, make sure all members of the group are in at least one more picture.

Use a Mood Board for Inspiration

Your collage can also be more abstract, more of a work of art than a trip down memory lane. In that case, you could use a mood board for inspiration. Indeed, mood boards themselves are a form of inspiration, so the idea translates well.

For your mood board collage, start with a specific inspiration. For example, maybe you want to earn a promotion at work. Collect images that represent what that will look like when you're done. You might find a picture of a corner office or a snazzy briefcase in addition to other images related to your work.

If you want a professional-looking work of art, consider ordering a customized 3D photo collage.
